YAC offers a number of programs throughout the year.

Coriell Institute Science Fair (Spring) - this tri-county event is sponsored by the Coriell Institute. Winners in grades 6-12 from our annual YAC Science and Math Fair become eligible to participate in this competition. Winners from the Coriell Fair become eligible for entry in the Delaware Valley Science Fair and ultimately the International Science and Engineering Fair.

Science Spectacular (Spring) - this program uses the talents of professional presenters such as Mr. Darryl Lee Baynes of the Minority Aviation Education Association. His interactive and educational presentation gives students and parents the opportunity to observe scientific experiments and demonstrations. They can also interact with presenters in hands-on activities. Other Spring events include Science Essay / Poster Contest.

Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day (Spring) - this program takes place at the R.W. Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Institute in Raritan, New Jersey. Students enjoy one-on-one mentoring and submit written and verbal communications regarding their experience.

YAC Book Awards (Summer) - $200 book awards are presented to graduating high school students who have participated in YAC programs and have been accepted to college.

YAC College Scholarships (Summer) - YAC awards graduating high school students with $1000 scholarships. Each scholarship is awarded to a student who has been accepted into college and plans to pursue a career in Science, Math or related industry.

Pre-College Programs (Summer) - YAC partners with local colleges and universities to enable our students to participate in various summer programs. These programs serve as a vehicle to prepare our students for continued and educational pursuits.

  • TARGET (The Academy at Rutgers for Girls in Engineering and Technology) - two week program for 7th and 8th grade girls at Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey. Students participate in workshops on leadership, self-esteem and careers. Hands-on experiments include robotics, engineering and computer science. YAC provides free daily transportation for this program.

  • TEEM (The Engineering Experience for Minorities) - three week program at Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey. This residential program encourages entering high school seniors (male and female) interested in an intense educational experience in engineering.
  • FEMME (Females in Engineering Methods Motivation Experience) - four week program intensive programs designed to expose female students to the fields of Engineering and Technology. Programs are sponsored by the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in Newark for 4th through 8th graders. The program offers: Advanced Mathematics, Mechanical, Environmental, Aeronautical, Chemical, Biomedical Engineering and more.

 

YAC SAT Prep (Fall and Spring) - YAC sponsors a series of training sessions to enhance preparation for the SAT examination. The program promotes academic readiness and competitiveness in our students. We provide this training to significantly increase test scores on standardized tests.

Science Fair (Winter) - Our culminating event of the year. Students in grades K-12 are invited to submit individual, team or family projects for review by distinguished panel of judges. Formal closing ceremony includes awarding of cash prizes and trophies. Educational Forum brings together a number of organizations to provide information to parents of our students about valuable youth resources throughout the county.
